The chief-of-staff starter system
One scheduled agent that reads your calendar and inbox overnight, briefs you at 6 AM, and renders a small morning console you can actually look at. This is the seed of a chief-of-staff system: start with the briefing, add one feed a week.
The setup
- Open Claude (Cowork or claude.ai with connectors) and connect calendar + email.
- Save the starter prompt below as a scheduled daily task for 6 AM.
- Open the interactive console it renders with your coffee — approve the drafted replies, skim the rest.
- After a week, add one feed: meeting notes, the team's calendar, or your literature notebook.
The starter prompt
You are my chief of staff. Every morning at 6 AM prepare: 1) TODAY'S CALENDAR — a one-line prep note per meeting, conflicts flagged, and anyone I owe follow-up from yesterday; 2) THE FIVE — the five emails from the last 24 hours that most need me, one line each, with a drafted reply behind each ready to approve; 3) DEADLINES — everything due within 72 hours, sorted by risk; 4) THE UNBLOCKED HOUR — one commitment with no time on the calendar, and the slot you would protect for it. Then render it all as one self-contained interactive HTML console: calm design, collapsible sections, approve-or-edit controls on the drafts. Save it as today's console. Never send anything without my approval. On Fridays add WEEK IN REVIEW: what I said I would do versus what happened.
NotebookLM: NotebookLM can't run agents — Claude for the full version, ChatGPT's scheduled tasks for a lighter one.
Codex: Codex can absolutely run this if you're terminal-native — same prompt, cron it.
Privacy boundary: no PHI in consumer AI tools. Use de-identified text or your health system's covered enterprise instance. Every installable skill ships with the full checklist.
